Binding options
- Saddle stitch (stapled): economical for up to a moderate page count. Pages must be in multiples of four.
- Perfect bound: a square glued spine, suited to thicker catalogues and reports.
- Wire or coil binding: lies flat when open, good for manuals and workbooks.
Read booklet binding options for the pros and cons of each.
Sizes and paper
A5 booklets are handy for programmes and pocket guides; A4 suits reports and catalogues. Inside pages are usually lighter than the cover. A heavier or laminated cover protects booklets that will be carried or used repeatedly.
Preparing booklet files
Supply a single PDF with pages in reading order (not printer spreads), each at the finished size with 3mm bleed. Keep important text away from the spine and outer edges. Count the pages including the covers – a 'twelve-page' booklet means twelve sides. If you are unsure, see preparing a print-ready PDF.
Lead times
Binding adds a finishing step, so booklets usually work best on Standard or Economy. Express may be possible for shorter runs; check the product page. Booklets for a fixed date – a conference, a funeral, an AGM – should be ordered as early as possible.
